Shrubs, usually scrambling or climbing, sometimes climbing up to 7 m high in trees.
Found among boulders on hillsides, near rivers, in scrub and scrub forest, and in coastal bush. Recorded from most parts of the Cape (except in western and northwestern areas), Natal and near the Natal border in the Transvaal.
